I began filtering Ulhas's messages when he showed up on PEN-L, but I want to strongly suggest that *there is* a context. When Ulhas first showed up on email lists about 7 or 8 years ago, it was clear that he was either a Marxist or strongly influenced by Marxism. Slowly but surely, he became converted to the Thomas Friedman ideology that many middle-class Asians have adopted. I think that is the context even though I personally would prefer to read Friedman direct from the NY Times op-ed pages.
