McCain is show-boating, trying to look more important than he is. He's only one senator and can go to DC _and_ participate in the debate. > While this is going on, the U.S. Army's 3rd Infantry Division's 1st Brigade > Combat Team is training for deployment in this country. you think there's a possibility of mass rebellion and thus mass repression? I don't see that in the cards. The mass rebellion seems pretty weak at this point, so there's little need for mass repression. And how can the US government spare a brigade's combat team when they're tied down in Iraq & Afghanistan? > Wall Street, TV commentators, analysts et al vociferate on the nation's > money woes. > > But it seems to me, that this isn't about money at all. [tree?] the rich folks -- who have been benefiting royally from almost 30 years of GOP/DP rule --- have been grabbing real resources for ages. They get rich financially and then buy yachts, McMansions, etc. They have also been pushing (successfully in many cases) to privatize government functions and resources, which allows them to get access to them at bargain-basement prices. They've also encouraged corruption, so that the gov't has let them benefit even when they're _renting_ government assets (as with the Interior Department's Mineral Management scandal). -- Jim Devine / "Nobody told me there'd be days like these / Strange days indeed -- most peculiar, mama." -- JL. _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
