That may be the point of socialism for you and me but alas, none of us
have any kind of control over how words are used in practice. Typical
economists use the word "socialism" to refer to any kind of statism
(for them, government interference with the market) while a lot of
leftists have used the word to refer to despotic statist regimes such
as that of Stalin.

The solution for most people is to use a two-word phrase such as
"democratic socialism." Or they stretch it out to three...
