It reminds me of the slides for local businesses shown before the
movie previews in multiplex theaters and sends a bad message since
some of the latest in test administration technology already gives
students in large lecture courses test-taking PDAs similar to audience
measurement devices, making course lectures more like Nascar races,
the Roman Coliseum or watching CNN or CBS focus groups during the
poltical debates.

One would like to think that teaching is never synonymous with mass
entertainment, but of course how many of us use media support in
classes to maintain attention instead of getting students to actually
think?

While perhaps appropriate for Montana and its dental floss bushes,
this example does suggest that this historian needs to read some of
Niall Ferguson's early work on counterfactuals. Or since this happened
in the frontier land of the Unabomber, use brand mascot stereotypes
like the Frito Bandito to teach them both about social banditry and to
provide departmental financial support.
