The question of class relations and the increase of CEO pay over the
years aside, the hubbub over CEO pay is really a distraction from the
real issue - the majority shareholders. According to the 1997 Survey
of Consumer Finances, 42.2% of outstanding stock is owned by the
wealthiest 1%, and considering that reports other data as well as
outside data, its clear majority ownership of stock is owned by a very
small percentage of the population, a great many of whom got if all
from inheritance, and they of course are the true parasites.
