I have felt for 40 years that Richard Nixon became a viable candidate for President in 1968 after his shoddy retreat from politics when he lost the race for California's governor when he appeared on Rowan and Martin's Laugh In program (NBC, I think it was) and made fun of himself. Before his cameo appearances he had no chance of running. He had given his "swan song" and made a fool of himself. Making a fool of himself on Rowan and Martin was a stroke of genius on his handlers' part.

Now NBC is busy rehabilitating another dead duck, Sarah Palin. Her appearance on Saturday Night Live, dictated, I would guess, by NBC's owner General Electric, may well have given her and McCain a fresh gloss and a new bowl of fat-infested chips for the American couch potato who sometimes votes.

I don't reckon there will be equal time for Biden, Gonzales are any of the other veep candidates.

Was it Goebbles who said "tell the lie over and over again and surround it with light humor?"
