(From John Halle)
Dear Friends,
With former Harvard President and Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers
currently being considered for a cabinet level position in the next
administration, I thought it was time to resuscitate and post on
youtube a video rendering of my piece "Mortgaging the Earth" from a
few years back for which a memo by Summers provided the inspiration.
It can be found <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG7xONmZz0Q>HERE:
Those of you blissfully unfamiliar with his record may not know that
in addition to being supportive of "dumping toxic waste in third
world countries" (the subject of my piece), Summers played a crucial
role in the Clinton administration's jettisoning of the
Glass-Steagall act leading directly to the subprime debacle, the
immiserative consequences of which we will be experiencing for the
next generation or so.
The few remaining days in which the Democratic nominee is competing
for our votes provide what may be the last opportunity for us- the
past and future victims of Summers-to effectively protest and
possibly prevent the return of his influence on national economic policy.
Whether you like the piece or not, I hope it will encourage and/or
remind you to take this opportunity to make your feelings known about
this and related matters and, if you feel like it, let me know how
you are doing so.
Finally, a word on the wonderful performance from the Sequitur
Ensemble. It is included on the recording "To Have and to Hold"
along with several other excellent pieces available for purchase

The players are:
