thinking about this issue more, I think that the long-term collective interests of the ruling class will always be unknown, uncertain. It's why those folks and their advisers get together for conferences in Gstaad and similar fancy venues and form discussion groups like the Trilateral Commission and the Bilderbergs. They're trying to answer the question.
