if they fail even with these loans, then the US government would
likely be the first creditor in line to claim what's left of the
Detroit 3's assets as part of liquidation.

(US National Public Radio has stopped calling them the "Big 3" and is
now calling them the "Detroit 3," which seems appropriate. The only
problem is that it makes them sound like the "Catonsville Nine" or the
"Chicago Eight.")
