W.r.t SDM, two things that I was going to mention turned up in the
conversation (perhaps not unsurprisingly): the slum/poverty porn
(intended primarily for Western audiences, I would agree -- though
some of the quotes from Indians regarding "reality", in the article
that Raghu posted are laughable), and a comparison to Salaam Bombay.
Like Raghu, I found SDM not too intolerable (my words, not his), but
unlike him, I found it fared poorly in comparison to Salaam Bombay.
That is perhaps because I am not a fan of soft porn? ;-) I am not a
movie critic, but one of these days I hope to write about SDM (or SM
if you prefer) on my blog, and if I do, I will post a link here.
