isn't this the kind of thing (like serial killings) that used to
happen only in the US? is Europe becoming "Americanized"?

Teenage Gunman Kills 15 at School in Germany
By CARTER DOUGHERTY and SHARON OTTERMAN

WINNENDEN, Germany — At least 15 people, the majority of them girls
and women, were killed when a teenage gunman clad in black stormed
into a school in this town near Stuttgart on Wednesday morning and
opened fire before fleeing to another town and killing himself after
being wounded by the police.

The attack left the country, which despite strong gun controls has
seen several devastating school attacks in recent years, struggling to
understand the carnage. Senior law enforcement officials descended on
the area amid saturation news coverage.

“This is a day of mourning for all of Germany,” Chancellor Angela
Merkel said in a brief statement in Berlin. “Our thoughts are with the
friends and families.”
