Greetings Economists,
Ahh yes the art world. Execrable delights like Jeff Koons and Julien
Schnabel. Bleeeugh. Still paw their way into national consciousness
as giants of an era. Heave.
The problem with the art world is not so much bullshit as scarcity of
support for artists. The market based system is not a support for
'schools' of art. Not a standard of professionalism. You can't
expect a gallery to promote movements.
There is a lot of interesting art out there. There isn't a lot of
decent left wing examination of U.S. art. In fact where is the left
wing audience? Said another way where is working class culture?
There is a synergy between deeper thinking about the left culture and
the mass who supports it. I'm especially concerned to see Beavis and
Butthead irreverence substitute for understanding in the the need
about what to say to workers about working class culture so to speak.
