This is the wrong way to put it in my opinion Michael. I defend Iran. I just don't defend the Mollahs! If one day the US attacks Iran and the Mollahs are still in power, I will have no choice but to take the side of the Mollahs, since at that point there will be no other choice, unless Iranians change it before then. I had no sympathy for Saddam, but when the US attacked Iraq, I found myself taking side with Saddam in the sense that I took side with Iraq. What I say is that both Yoshie and Louis should leave this thing to the Iranians. But I have no faith in neither of them: They cannot do it! This is a sickness of the metropolitan left, whether American or Japanese! And then there are the personality issues Ravi mentioned. Yet, it is not only Louis, it is also Yoshie who is responsible for this psychological shit!
