I've been reading Monthly Review for more than 40 years. It has been an important part of my education. I have never met Yoshie except over the Internet. From the moment I first became aware of her on the LBO list, it was obvious that she was brilliant and had boundless energy. My exchanges with her have been uniformly positive and I would like to think of her as a friend, even though we have never met personally.
As I mentioned before, I don't think anybody here supports the mullahs. Nor is anybody enthusiastic about Monthly Review taking a line that is sympathetic to the thugs who currently run Iran. Nor would we look kindly upon a neoliberal government as a great improvement. I asked Yoshie if she would please stop her messages to pen-l in support of the current Iranian government. She complied by signing off the list, which was not the outcome that I preferred. Since we can no more change the policy of Monthly Review than we can alter the Iranian government, I'm going to ask once again that we lay off the subject unless except in the case of some new information that will really alter our understanding. The resignation of Barbara Epstein, however, does provide information new about the decision-making process at Monthly Review. -- Michael Perelman Economics Department California State University Chico, CA 95929 Tel. 530-898-5321 E-Mail michael at ecst.csuchico.edu michaelperelman.wordpress.com _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
