Critique number one: Marvin Harris This will be the first in a series of posts about Napoleon Chagnon’s critics. It will begin with a review the arguments of Marvin Harris, a long-time member of the Columbia University faculty who died in 2001. Harris described his approach as cultural materialism, clearly influenced by Karl Marx. ^^^^ CB: However, Harris specifically delcared against dialectics, that he was a vulgar materialist. So, not suprising that Sahlins criticizes him as overly "materialistic". Of course, Harris also explained devouring human sacrifice victims' hearts based on protein need. Now that's vulgar materialism. _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
