I thoroughly enjoyed Joanna's note. We could also add the numerous rich 
people who leave fortunes to their animal.  Should we include the idea that 
PETA gets more support than any organization to support the homeless.  
Maybe homeless shelters should act more like animal shelters and find 
people a good home.

Our priorities are totally screwed.  People in California don't elect 
enough people to get taxes raised then scream when cities try to raise 
funds by squeezing more out of parking fees.

Almost a century ago, Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote
in a dissenting opinion, "Taxes are what we pay for civilized society."
