Sorry. Let me correct myself. I CAN think of an instance where the left "counselled that the best defence in these confrontations (with the right)

So there is a "fascist" menace in America comparable, even in the slightest, to Hitler in 1931? And Obama leads a "working class party?" Come on!

The reality is that Obama and the teabaggers agree completely on the issue they are squabbling about. Both are fighting to ensure that the giant financial, insurance, and pharmaceutical companies continue to dominate our health-care system and to bury single-payer national health insurance--ie., the plan backed not only by the left but by majorities among health professionals and the public. The portrayal of Obama as a "hesitating leadership" is essentially that of the teabaggers for whom any reform plan, even one written by lobbyists for the health-insurance profiteers, is "socialist." That the teabaggers are as stupid as Obama is clever is revealed by the fact that by helping to beat Obama's Health Scam they help to keep the single-payer issue alive and working for the left.

This is 100% wrong. It is by not coming out and confronting the Obama/
Clinton health scam even more vocally than the stupid right that the
"left" are "shooting themselves in the foot."

I can think of many historical instances where the left...considered they could best expose the shortcomings of their leaders in action...

Obama became the chosen leader of big capital precisely because he was free of "shortcomings" (unlike the idiot Bush). And the "shortcoming" of the Liberal and Labor leaders, à la Andy Stern, is precisely their support for Obama in what they mendaciously advertise as "the fight against reaction."
