Incisive and well-written as usual, but you don't really answer the

To me, it simply comes down to delusions on the part of the left and
the consequences thereof. Perhaps this is psychological displacement?
These persons on the left, such as the "sophisticated and thoughtful
person" close to you may see corporate power destroying the world, but
instead of attacking it, which would require embracing some alternative
("socialism!" gasp), they attack the Republicans instead and defend
Obama.
I'm not expert on psychology, though, so I may be spouting nonsense.
