Pertinent to European politics today, German, Italian, French, Dutch, et al., can't we say that the rightward swing there in the last few years is related to the world-historic "comupence" of capitalist colonialism and imperialism: large numbers of non-Europeans of the darker peoples emigrating to the European metropoles of their colonialist master nations ? Even the French can't help lurching to the right. Fascists are no longer "unacceptable" in Italy.

It's possible in this case, too, the savage assault on a people of colour was was a consequence of the regime's imperialist pretensions , rather than a cause of it, as was the planned genocide of the Nazis against the Jews.
