As bad or worse than planting a pine tree as an excuse for burning
coal, is using not cutting down a forest as an excuse for continuing
to burn coal. It is absolutely true that some sort of incentive should
be provided for forest preservation. But it is really appalling to
suggest that this incentive should take the form of carbon credits,
that is permissions to continue to burn coal.
