Note that he doesn't talk about individual "human nature" as somehow
fixed as much as about the ethnic groupings (which are presumed to
compete with each other). And these groupings change their nature over
time, becoming class societies.
The whole purpose of GGS is to salve the conscience of PBS
viewers, New Yorker Magazine subscribers and other comfortable
liberals vaguely aware of the existence of colonialism is to write
it off as kismet. If Peru had horses and Britain had llamas, then
Peru would be on top and Britain on the bottom. That's the way it
goes...
