At quite a distance (both geographical and emotional), I've been
watching the struggle between the ABC network and Cablevision in New
York City. Contract difficulties lead to a game of chicken, complete
with public accusations in advertisements accusing ABC of "greed."
(How can anyone expect ABC -- or Cablevision -- to be any other way??)
Then, at the last minute, an agreement is made, so viewers could see
the Oscars.

it used to be that this kind of drama happened in labor contract
negotiations. But the neoliberal (employers') offensive of the 1970s
and after largely stopped that. But wasn't the end of organized labor
in the US supposed to end this kind of conflict? (rhetorical
question.)
