Dean Baker calls for allowing doctors who are licensed in other countries to practice in the US to drive MDs' pay down. BTW, the cache of a priest doesn't keep priests' pay up. MDs are more like scientists than priests (complete with white coats). And that's not that off-target: MDs know much more about medicine that the vast majority of people. It's true that barriers to entry keep their pay up, though.
