I did as well. In fact both me and Doug get cameo roles in Rick Pearlstein's book on the conservative movement. Me and my cousin Louis Reynolds Proyect (I was Louis Nelson) were members of the YAF in 1960. I hated everybody in my high school and when they backed JFK, I backed Goldwater over Nixon. For me it was a little like Charles Bukowski telling his classmates that he liked Hitler in the late 1930s. That being said, I thought that William F. Buckley was exceedingly clever and drew conservative conclusions from "Brave New World". When I got to Bard College in 1961, peer pressure turned me into a liberal, with ideological affinities with Camus. In 1967 I became a Trotskyist after waking up to capitalist reality. _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
