While Bruce Cumings is noted for his work on the Korean War, he is also known for an essay that appeared in a 1987 edited volume on Asian labor regimes, on the product cycle model (flying geese model), crediting the Japanese author Akamatsu. Most business and other scholars studying PCM have credited Vernon for his 1966 work for a much simpler version. Such a unitary or rather an integrated interpretation of East Asian economic history has been recognized but is becoming even more acknowledged, including amongst others, by historian Mark Selden, another contemporary of Bruce Cumings.
