or could it be that a whole bunch of people conned themselves into believing in Obama's promises of hope and change? To some extent any con game involves people conning themselves. But usually it's a matter of the "marks" thinking that they're doing something slightly illegal or immoral, sneakily sharing something with the con. That doesn't fit my image of the mass adulation around Obama during 2008.
