The president said that he was forced to act because Colonel Qaddafi had 
turned on his own people and had shown, Mr. Obama said, "no mercy on his own

The principle now seems to be that if a ruler starts physically attacking 
his own people, foreign intervention to stop it is justified. How about 
implementing that principle in a few other foreign policy contexts :-)
