Doesn't the UN arms embargo apply to Libyan territory as a whole? It is the
duty of the coalition enforcing the UN arms embargo to stop arms being shipped
into Libya. But arms are coming in from Egypt for the rebels and with the tacit
approval of the United States. Obama even claims that he does not rule out
arming the rebels. Of course he already is no doubt doing so through Egypt.
Isn't this an obvious violation of the UN resolution.
Of course from the get go there have been no attempts to force a cease fire
or negotiated solution. It is not that the coalition is exceeding the UN
resolution it is that it pays no attention to the resolution except for clauses
that suit its purposes. This is evident if you listen to any talk show about
Libya. It is all about what are the aims of the mission. But the aims are set
out clearly in the UN resolution. What they are really talking about is what
the
U.S. or west wants to achieve. No one mentions a cease fire or negotiated
solution. If the UN resolution is mentioned at all it is just in terms of
protecting innocent civilians or it is mentioned as obviously too limited.

   Cheers, ken
