On NPR a couple of days ago, Jeff Immelt of GE was called the president's jobs czar. And Immelt was cited as saying there are 2 million open jobs at the moment for which businesses cannot find workers.
To his credit, the NPR guy reflected a lot of scepticism. But his guest, from Georgetown, supported the idea of vast numbers of unfilled jobs -- because our schools aren't set up right to deliver people to the employers. My question: where are these two million jobs? And if the market works, why don't businesses raise the pay to attract workers? They must be out there sitting on couches, collecting unemployment or SSI or SS, and could be lured by money. _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
