ideas: (I'm not an expert on firefox) 1. could it be that you just accidentally changed what the default URL was when you open a new tab, and you could just change that back?
in my version of firefox, go to the tools menu, select options, under general, either select "show blank page" or select "show my home page"; if the latter, then in the space below where it says "Home page" put in whatever URL you want. 2. if that doesn't work, download and re-install the latest firefox. It doesn't take that long to do, and by default it should remember everything you want it to remember.
