Neither author is Marxist; both write for popular audiences. And I assign or lecture about them to undergrads, but I do recommend Ha-Joon Chang and Amit Bhaduri. Pranab Bardhan, also not a Marxist, has written an important comparative study of the recent economic development of China and India. I would also recommend Robert Allen's study of the early Soviet Union for a graduate student interested in developmental economics. Some prominent Marxist geographers include Richard A Walker, James Peck, Michael Webber and of course David Harvey. Lakshmi
