from SLATE:

Perry Changes Anti-Abortion Stance to Include Incest

The Texan says he has had a "transformation" and now thinks abortion
is wrong in all cases.

Rick Perry may be trailing in the Iowa polls with one week to go but
the one-time GOP frontrunner is not giving up just yet.

The Texan has launched his latest bid to win over conservative voters
thought to be key to his campaign hopes, telling a group of Iowans on
Tuesday that his opposition to abortion has grown, and he now believes
that it is wrong in all cases, including rape and incest.

The Los Angeles Times was on hand at the campaign event where Perry
attempted to explain his shifting stance. The paper reports that a
local pastor asked Perry about an apparent disconnect between his
previous statements suggesting abortion might be justifiable in
extreme cases and a pledge the candidate recently signed that vowed to
oppose abortion in every situation.

"You’re seeing a transformation," Perry said, confirming that his
views on the issue have shifted and adding that he had recently been
convinced to expand his opposition after watching the anti-abortion
film The Gift of Life.

Of course, the "transformation" comes at a particularly convenient
time, seeing as the social conservatives who those comments are meant
to appeal to are still thought to be largely undecided on who to back
in the Jan. 3 caucuses that will officially launch the GOP nominating
contest. The Times notes another convenient coincidence: The Gift of
Life features 2008 GOP caucus winner Mike Huckabee.

[According to Rick Santorum, there are _three_ Iowa primaries going on
at the same time (a Trifecta?) Ron Paul will win the "libertarian"
primacy, while Willard and Newt are running in the "moderate" primary
(with Huntsman sitting out). Santorum, the other Rick, and Bachmann
are running in the social conservative primary. That's one of the best
preparations for losing the primary I've heard, assuming that Santorum
wins the third primary. With this kind of stuff, who needs the
Kardashians?]
