I wonder. I don't get the impression that the lads
are ashamed of their bodies, exactly. They spend a lot
of time working out, and when the results have been
good (and sometimes when they haven't) the shirt will
come off readily. It's the organs of generation they
seem shyer about than guys of my vintage. When I was a
lad, parading around starkers in the locker room was
an important tribal rite.

I wonder if is has something to do with the relatively
recent above-groundness of gay guys? Since any given
locker room is likely to have gay guys and het guys
in it, as an acknowledged and accepted and unproblematic
fact, does a locker room now constitute Mixed Company?
A place that calls for desexualization?

Any proposition that seems self-evident
is almost certainly false.
