In Cuba, mulatto is used as a neutral description. It appears in demographic statistics where 'mixed race' appears in, for example, New Zealand. Can somebody comment on whether 'mulatto' is used in Cuban everyday language and, if it is, how often it carries a negative connotation?
Also, how has the word developed in other Latin American countries, eg Brazil?
