We should do away with the limited liability that corporations have, so that the stockholders would be held liable for dangerous working conditions (beyond what they'd lose if the stock price goes to zero). After all, if corporations are people (and able to bid for ownership of politicians under the Citizens United decision) and since people don't have limited liability, it follows logically that corporations should not have the limited-liability privilege. And, by the way, the fee that corporations pay for the limited-liability privilege (i.e., the corporate income tax) has been phased out over the decades and looks like it will disappear soon, the corporations are getting something extremely valuable (limited liability) for nothing.
Of course, with the corporate capitalists controlling the government, this isn't going to happen. -- Jim Devine / "In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite." -- Paul Dirac _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
