Doug Henwood's radio show heard on KPFA on Saturday June 9th was marvelous.
Adam Davidson in the NYTimes and on NPR explains finance and economics to the masses. If you have read and/or heard him you will know how weak he is. One of his recent columns extolling the benefits to the masses of Wall Street was strongly attacked, including by Doug Henwood. Davidson invited Henwood to visit him and explain why liberals and leftists criticize him. The conversation was recorded and Henwood played much of it on today's program. It is not to be used by NPR but Henwood was free to play what he wanted of it. Henwood's opening monologue -- for that's what it was -- was excellent, and throughout the program Doug was good. Davidson was in over his head, though he sounded like a nice fellow. I'm not going to recount any of it but this, to illustrate Davidson's credulousness: I missed bits of the program but Davidson evidently had recommended Honduras as a shining example of finance going to the aid of a backward country. Henwood said the president of Honduras was in as the result of a coup. "Oh, no, replied Davidson, he was elected." Well, of course he was, after the coup dumped and exiled the legal president and the military then presided over the country. If Doug makes this available on line, catch at least the opening. Separately, I was glad to learn that the Henwood program will play on KPFA in the future on Thursdays at noon.
