Maybe you are biased because of the recent history of the last 40 years? The Democratic Party after all, did deliver the New Deal and Civil Rights - achievements that are still substantially intact even after the setbacks of the last 30 years. You are dismissive about the possibility of co-opting the Democratic Party, but put yourself in the shoes of your average Tea Party racist in December 2008, and the despair he must have felt about the Republican Party. I mean, they are so soft they actually lost an election to a black man! Now look at the Republican Party today just 3 years later. They make Dick Cheney look like a moderate.
