Preobrazhensky certainly understood that Soviet industrialization required
a kind of primitive accumulation. The question that I have is the extent to
which Robert C. Allen has
defended Preobrazhensky's plans.
One important point about A and R is that unlike most bourgeois thinkers
they do not deny the liberating and productive role of revolution and
revolutionary institutional change
and even war in bringing about a bourgeois order out of feudalism and
absolutism. They do not think such an order would have simply developed
"organically" in, say,
France or Japan without revolutionary political struggle. They put politics
in command.
