Patrick,

The Marikana massacre is an incredibly horrendous event that will
never be forgotten. It is a result of the utter market fundamentalist
policy of the ANC government, which you have documented in such books as
the "Politics of Climate Justice" and "Durban's Climate Gamble: Trading
Carbon, Betting the Earth". These books are not just on the environment,
but also show the nature of what's been happening in South Africa. And
what's been happening in South Africa says a lot more about the
economics and politics of the "developing" world than many fancy tracts.
One can only hope that the time is getting closer when the South
African working class develops a more organized response to the
exploitation and misery to which it has been subject. One can only
respect the heroism of the miners who have sought to continue their
struggle in spite of the bloodshed. Please keep sending these
materials; I have been passing them on to other comrades.
