Leaving aside the "pit of hell" image, he's certainly at least half-
right--the "big bang" part.
But this is nothing compared to Paul Krugman's assertion in today's NY
TIMES that the September unemployment rate decline reflects a labor
force whose growth has declined drastically because of all the "baby
boomers" reaching retirement age. Anyone who reached the age of 65
(an age beyond which many would, albeit unwillingly, still be looking
for work if jobs were available) in September would have been
conceived in 1946, long before any onset of a "baby boom!"
