It looks to me more like a front group for the Democratic Leadership Council 
than the PPI, still therefore "not left by any definition".

In other words, a policy and propaganda arm of the Obama administration which 
is seeking to head off and contain anti-austerity protests from the Democratic 
party's working class base. A Romney administration cutting back public pension 
and health programs would have been a "less effective evil" in this regard.
