Publisher's note (in a rough translation)

"Some 80 years after the 'Black Friday' in 1929, which ushered in the
first great crisis of capitalism, the global economy is still caught
in the second Great Crisis which erupted in 2007. Once again there is
a period of stagnation and depression which lasts longer than one
industrial cycle. Hence the current situation is comparable with the
1930s. Against this background, Keynes has again become topical. His
masterpiece, the "General Theory of Employment, Interest and
Money", is the systematic theoretical expression of the then
economic collapse. Within the Marxist reception of Keynes Paul
Mattick's book "Marx and Keynes" (1969) is almost the only work on
this complex problem.

Stephan Krueger's book is a new systematic exposition and critique of
Keynesian economics. Based on the fundamental categories of money,
work and time the "General Theory" is judged from the standpoint of
Marx's critique of political economy. Krueger's main interest is the
demonstration of those points at which Keynes formulated - albeit in
categories of societal surface - a correct view of the capitalist
mode of production, its inherent contradictions and its patterns of
movement and trends of development.

Keynes is the only economist of bourgeois origin, whose theory can be
integrated into a Marxist analysis of the capitalist mode of
production and into a modern concept of socialism."
