There is a widely known vulnerability in current versions of Java (even
when fully patched) that allow malicious code to be run on an infected
machine and for remote access to an infected machine. Infections sharply
spiked in the last couple days, especially in the US, Germany, Russia,
and Brazil. One need only visit a compromised website. Until Oracle
releases a patch, it's not bad idea to disable Java
https://www.java.com/en/download/help/disable_browser.xml . Java is a
notoriously buggy avenue of attack that is made more enticing in that it
circumvents many security features; so if you can live without it,
consider permanently disabling (or completely uninstalling) it. Windows,
MacOS, and Linux are all vulnerable.
