Without knowing a thing about Stan Fisher, I have to wonder how much of Israel's apparent escape from global level economic disaster was up to the actions of Magic Stan and how much had to do with two completely missing items on the list of free market magic.
The first item is the vast US subsidies of Israel's military-industrial complex, relieving them of some significant cost burden of a thoroughly militarized security state. The other item is the growth outlet of the settler housing industry with free land and natural resources like water. I am sure there are a lot of good full time government jobs required to oppress the Palestinians---lots of paper pushing that is, beyond just the guns and prisons. I also wonder how Israel would look, if we took into account the defacto reality that there is one economy of a single apartheid state.
