rich folks who tell the DC establishment what they want to hear get a lot of attention. The folks who are pushing to balance the government budget über alles are almost all using the "budget crisis" (sic) to push their own agendas. They don't want workers to have true pensions (such as social security) for example, so they use any crisis in a storm to replace them with 401ks, etc. They want tax cuts for their campaign contributors, friends, and themselves, so they push spending cuts on the rest of us. Since they don't really care about balancing the budget, they often aren't very specific about how to pay for their gifts to the rich. If all of this undermines the system's legitimacy, there's always martial law. -- Jim Devine / "Segui il tuo corso, e lascia dir le genti."
