The point about not being swept away by scandal hype isn't in itself so terrible. But the way she treats the AP scandal, which is a real scandal in the sense that 1) it's directly traceable to the top of the Administration and 2) it really matters to core principles (press freedom and the fate of national security reporting) is truly shameful. The fact that many Republicans are opportunist critics (shocked!) is not the most important thing, if one thinks "progressive" means defending progressive principles, rather than playing on the anti-Republican team. This treatment of the AP scandal reminds me of liberals who defended the Obama Administration's willful violation of the War Powers Resolution in the case of Libya by saying that Republican critics were opportunist.
