I know this is actually more of a "liberal" issue than a progressive one -- seeing as how many people on this list have no use for either Obama or the Democrats --- but I think this is one place we even a handful of leftists can have an impact.
Since there is already a great deal of controversy over whether or not Obama should appoint Larry Summers or Janet Yellen to head the FED, I think it would be very helpful if members of this list contacted the White House (I just did with a toll free phone call -- it's also easy to do on line) and tell them in no uncertain terms that Larry Summers is unfit to be head of the FED. For anyone who wants ammunition here's one of Dean Baker's columns about Summers http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dean-baker/the-return-of-larry-summe_b_3601013.html The NY Times just ran an article about the controversy and if you believe them it's all about the gender issue between Janet Yellen's supporters and those who support Summers. But it's much more than that --- Giving Summers the job would be rewarding him for helping bring on the disaster of 2008. Thus, weighing in with actual REASONS why Summers is unfit might help -- especially with all the efforts some people are making to push for Yellen.
