Almost everywhere in the world now, the real average hours per week worked
are actually rising, although officially or nominally there is still a
36-hour or 40-hour workweek. If workers are paid for 40 hours per week, but
they work 50 hours per week, the discrepancy may not even show up
statistically. If you add to that wage theft and various other issues to do
with net pay and gross pay, the official data may not provide a very
accurate picture anymore.
