Thanks for the heads-ip on the article, Michael. The teachers' unions does seem to be an obsession of the right. I had a conversation with a conservative businessman and he tossed in, casually, as if it were something everybody knew and understood, that "something has to be done to break the teachers' unions." And I've seen it asserted, though I haven't been able to track down a quote, that the authors of a hot new book on how technology is wiping out jobs, have blamed teachers' unions for the weakness of the US schools. I'll look for the Ryan article.
