I wonder/hope that this is a "teachable moment" about McCarthyism and the blacklist...Pete Seeger was vindicated by history. But many Americans had their lives unjustly destroyed.
We see today some echoes of the blacklist, and also of the Japanese-American internment, in the post-9/11 suspension of civil liberties for American Muslims and Arabs opposed to U.S. foreign policy. For example: How the US Used a "Terrorism" Ploy to Attack Islamic Charity to Iran http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/21237-how-us-used-a-terrorism-ploy-to-attack-islamic-charity-to-iran There are many fitting ways to pay tribute to Pete Seeger. But one of them would be to educate the young about the blacklist and the importance of defending the rights of Americans to hold political views that the government doesn't like.
